The Animals are Always Leading Me

I’ve had a lot on my mind lately. Big, meaty, weighty topics. Conversations that people feel are possibly out-of-scope for a Soul Level Animal Communicator® and Intuitive Coach such as myself. But I keep being drawn back to them, mulling them over, enjoying podcasts that debate these topics, and citing these discussion to the annoyance of a few people in my life. But I just can’t leave these topics alone.

I’ve always had a passion for big social issues and the deep, insightful writing that sheds light on humanity grappling with them. I love asking the question “why?” As in “why can’t we look at this deeper?” Or “why can’t we do things differently?” In doing so, I find I examine and challenge the status quo. That is a hard place for a lot of people to go. But, as I like to remind everyone, the only constant is change. And in an effort to understand humanity at a greater level - some of these big, meaty topics like climate crisis, racism and access to women’s healthcare - are coming to the forefront for me again. These are themes that affect us all. And can be really hard to discuss, because we are exposing some pretty negative, I even say fearful, things about us humans.

So how did the animals lead me here?

Well, let’s start with goldfish.

Over the last few years, I have actually avoided the news. A lot of it is fear-mongering, in my opinion. To find the unbiased reporting, you have to dig past the headlines and inflammatory language. That takes time and effort - something our culture doesn’t seem into anymore. We are, if you didn’t know this statistic, living in a world where our attention spans have shrunk from 12 seconds to 6. Six seconds is all we will give most things. It’s likely taken you longer than six seconds to read this far. And, get this, six seconds is LESS than the attention span of a goldfish.

As a former advertising executive, that little “ping” from the goldfish led me to examine the shift in how we engage with information today. I began to seek opportunities to learn more about these topics and slowly share what I’ve learned with those willing to mull them over with me. So, thank you, goldfish, for that wake-up call. Because these topics have been ignored for way-too long and six seconds won’t help us much if we really start to answer the question, “why?”

Right now, I’m studying the Christian Mystics, like Hildegard von Bingen with a wonderful elder and former priest, Matthew Fox. The things I have learned! I grew up in the Catholic church but the messages at Mass never quite hit home for me when I was a kid. I always found myself asking - you guessed it - “why?” And as I also study A Course in Miracles, with the message that God is love and we are all the Divine having a Human Experience, I’m learning that the Church and other facets of Christianity strayed from the original foundation of love and incorporated messages of fear. And you know what caused that separation between love and fear, between God and Human? A rat.

In a nutshell - which can be a hard fit for a complex issue - when the bubonic plague swept Europe, people began to fear nature. They blamed rats, in particular, as the cause of the disease. And as this fear gripped the population, the Church reinforced it and began to separate us from nature (from God too but that’s another topic). Instead of actually teaching people that blaming nature ultimately harms us, we turned away from her. We turned away from the very force that is integrated within all of us.

I find this all so interesting. And I am called to explore and write about this need to integrate humanity with nature. We are, animals, after all.

What is so cool is that the animals led me here! My dogs Noah, Bono and India who are in-spirit and still part of my life led me down a path of consulting with animal communicators and they encouraged me to “be the voice of the animals.” So, I became a certified Soul Level Animal Communicator®. Along the way, I grew interested in Intuitive Coaching and working with my guides to help others find their true calling by remove blocks to their greater selves. It’s amazing work and I’m so excited to complete my certification soon - hopefully in late October 2021.

In working with my guides, one of whom is Bono my dog, they told me to start learning about Native traditions and world religions. This way, I can meet people where they are to help all of us understand our experience more deeply. I want to talk about how humans are at a point in our existence where we need to integrate with nature - not continue to be separate from it - or we will cease to exist as a species. Just like my studies in A Course in Miracles teaches me, I want to approach these meaty topics from a place of love, discover where we’ve been living - or continue to live in fear - and how we can step forward together.

I want to address climate crisis, racism and what a world based on love can look like. The animals are asking me to do so - because they have been trying so hard to be seen and heard on all of these topics. So when you see blog posts about big social topics, I hope you’ll join the conversation. It’s a long and winding road, this journey of the human experience. One that I know is, ultimately, all about our place within nature, Mother Earth and all of her animals.

A goldfish holds its attention span longer than the average human. Something to think about, in six seconds or less.
