Messages From The Birds

I’ve been having so much fun this Spring, noticing what birds arrive back to West Michigan, when. Several weeks ago, on a cold but bright February afternoon, Lukas and I were welcomed into the nature preserve with the trill of a Red-Winged Blackbird. It caught us completely by surprise as we hadn’t heard them for many months and we weren’t anticipating their return just yet. It was like hearing an old friend shout your name from down the street!

Since then, we’ve watched the bluebirds become blue-er in their vibrancy, pileated woodpeckers fly all over the place, tufted titmice (sp?) sing more certainly, robins dance with one another, goldfinches hop from one branch to another, vultures soar overhead, grackles swoop down upon us and finches spy into my office window. The Down Chorus is started again as well as late night bugling from Canadian Geese. It’s funny how, as Fall becomes Winter, we don’t realize how much song has slowly moved away until Spring starts to arrive and you hear, once again, how much song fills our days.

What’s been even more fun this year is, as I see a new bird in the preserve, asking what message each bird has to share. Here’s what they have given me so far:

Bluebird: Bluebird: Find joy in the simple things.

Vulture: Patience. Good things always come when they are ready to received. Be patient so you are ready.

Goldfinch: We love your unbridled joy, your inspirational, motivational positive energy. Make sure you give that to yourself as well!

Tufted Titmouse: Stay bright and cheery in the face of a challenge.

Pileated Woodpecker: We're bringing all the good things to keep your dreams moving forward - courage, motivation, balance, creativity, optimism - you name it! Don't give up - we've got you!

House Finch: We help you move and ascend along your spiritual path. You can ask us to point you to your True North when you’re feeling stuck.

Robin: We take your wishes and help them come true by bringing new growth into your life. After casting your wish, begin your practice of patience (with Vultures!) so Robin has room to work.

Grackle: Don’t be afraid to express your emotions! Use whatever emotion you have to understand how you really feel about something. See if you can tie it to the Negative Belief you are currently working with for ongoing release and growth.
