Putting Ourselves First

As soon as I conclude a session with a client, Lukas wakes from the deepest of slumbers and jets out from his bed underneath my desk to a spot right behind my chair. He quickly rolls over onto his back, urgently thumping his tail. It’s his invitation for a heart-to-heart hug.

It’s hard to ignore that amount of cuteness which is precisely why he does this - to grab my attention and accept his invitation. He actually does this more for me than for him, knowing that I have a hard time putting myself first. I don’t really take enough breaks throughout the day to simply breathe for a moment.

Being a Peacemaker (more on that here) I’m always finding ways to take care of just one more thing for someone else, thinking that when I’ve put them at peace, mine will come follow. It never does because I can always find something to avoid putting myself first.

You can find the full story and learn more about the Monthly Animal Messages on my Substack. There, you can also sign up to receive updates in your email inbox as well as the link to download my free ebook “See Yourself As Animals See You: A Guide to Trusting Your Animals.”

I hope you’ll follow along and even share your experience of how your pet helps you continue to grow and expand.
